Every year many kids participate in the traditional 2km Kids Challenge. Supported by Project Energize, the 2km course is designed to be fun and safe to participate in. Kids can enter through their school or parents can enter their children themselves.

Information below is relevent for Team Managers of a school team.

Entry info

School entries need to be received and paid for by Friday 9 November. This is an earlier deadline than for other entries and is to allow time for preparing race number packs for each school.

The team manager of the school team can enter their team in the following way:

  1. Download the schools entry form
  2. Fill in all details – following the instructions on the form
  3. Once completed, email the form back to becks@uleisure.co.nz by Friday 9 November
  4. We will send you confirmation and contact you for payment ($5 per child)

Categories and Start times

The 2km Kids Challenge is for children who are in School Year 3 to 8. Boys and girls start separately and different year groups start at different times.  School year groups are:

The top 3 boys and 3 girls for each year category will be awarded with a Round the Bridges medal.

School prizes

The two winning schools will receive $500 worth of sports equipment for their school. Winning schools are:

  • School with the most children participating compared to their school roll (only counting school year 3-8)
  • School with the most participants

Things to know

Start Team Pack

Each school will receive a team pack that includes race numbers and timing chips for all children. These will be sent to you before Thursday 15 November.

Course

The course is a 1km lap in Victoria St which will be run twice. The course is supervised by event staff and Project Energize and is designed to be safe for children to participate in on their own. Parents are welcome to encourage their child along the side line.

Start

To ensure a controlled and safe start all children will be lined up per year category in Collingwood St. Boys and girls start separately. Please make sure your child is lined up in time (see start time schedule).

Finish

Once the run has finished all children will be led to a separate area in Garden Place where the parent can pick up their child. There will be a drink and small snack for all children after finishing the run.

Kids Fun Zone

Civic Square will be filled with fun activities for the kids, all free to participate in.
