Charities

Three different charities have come on board with New Zealand Home Loans Round The Bridges. They all utilise the event in their own way to achieve the great things they are working on.

Mckenzie Centre

McKenzie Centre McKenzie Centre helps children under six with special needs throughout the greater Hamilton region reach their potential. “McKenzie Centre is proud to be associated with the Round the Bridges and grateful to be involved again with the event” – Trisha Benge, McKenzie Centre Director.

100% of funds donated to McKenzie Centre through the event go to delivering real benefits for the children, as evidenced by a new play ground and renovations of our building.

Buddy Day NZ

Buddies to descend on Hamilton 18 November! On November 18, 180 child shaped cardboard cut-outs will be descend on Hamilton during the first annual “Buddy Day”. The cut-outs, each one representing 10 of the 1800 substantiated cases of child abuse reported in the Waikato last year, are affectionately called "Buddies". Volunteers ranging from city officials to retailers will adopt a Buddy for the day. The Buddies will be taken out to different places throughout the city with their caregivers, initiating conversations about the roll we all have in keeping our kids safe.

The Buddies will be clothed, decorated and given their own unique story prior to the event by area schools, day care centres and other community groups. “This is a great opportunity to have fun with the kids,” said Showanna Palone, owner of Sunshine Childcare. “But more importantly, it allows us to gain awareness about the issue and what we can do to help the cause.”The initiative will be launched at Round the Bridges on Sunday the 13th of November.

Arthritis New Zealand

Arthritis is New Zealand’s leading cause of disability; one in six New Zealanders over 15 are diagnosed with arthritis – that’s 530,000 people.

Many people think arthritis only affects older people, which is an unfortunate misconception. You might be surprised to learn there are over 1000 children and young people living with the pain of arthritis. Chances are someone you love lives with arthritis.

Arthritis New Zealand supports people to find the best ways to manage their arthritis, raises awareness, and advocates for improved services, such as medication subsidies and increased rheumatology services.
